Gutter Helmet Spring Gutter Cleaning and Maintenance Tips

Spring is upon us and this is a perfect time to inspect your gutter system for clogs, leaks or other problems. Here are a few general gutter cleaning and maintenance tips.

 - A good rule of thumb is that gutters need to be cleaned in the spring and fall. If your house is located in a heavily wooded area, you may need to clean your gutters more frequently.

- You will need a ladder, a bucket, rubber gloves, a spade or other small shovel, large spoon or other device to scoop debris from gutters and a hose to do the job

- After you remove all the debris by hand, rinse out the gutters with a hose and check for leaks

- Also be sure to check to make sure your gutters are pitched correctly so that water flows completely out of gutters and there is no standing water

- Repair any leaks at seems by patching with outdoor waterproof caulk

-Always do this with a second person who can hold the ladder and empty the bucket. That way you reduce the risk of falling.
